This is a great example of some of the quirky but wonderful things in Massachusetts state law.

I love the history of Massachusetts JP's, and like to think about a time when the neighborhood Justice of the Peace could hear smaller civil and minor criminal matters on the doorstep.

I wonder if you knew that the phrase "Reading the Riot Act" originally came from a duty of a Massachusetts Justice of the Peace (i.e. to disperse unruly crowds).

Massachusetts JP's today provide very valuable advice and experience to couples seeking to get married. Much of my blog seeks to provide information as a public service.

Having a "JP for the day" can be a great option for couples with someone particular in mind, but the task should not be taken lightly.

Wedding ceremonies are times that create enduring memories, and many folks seek professional services to help assure those memories are pleasant ones.

Thanks again for an excellent story.

David Barrett
Justice of the Peace
Commonwealth of Massachusetts
BarrettDavid@hotmail.com
Toll Free - 1-877-473-7852
http://tinyurl.com/byktc
http://massjusticepeace.blogspot.comDavid A.
