NH House Blesses Gay Marriage

If it's spring, it must be time for same-sex marriage in New England. Vermont's House will likely pass it into law tomorrow. Today, action is in New Hampshire.

The House there approved SSM today, 186 to 179.

The state approved civil unions two years ago. The bill now goes to the Senate.

While Gov. John Lynch does not favor SSM, he has not said whether he would veto a bill if passed.

The Portsmouth online papers carry an AP follow-up, which includes:

Democrats hold a 14-9 edge in the Senate, but Senate Republican Leader Peter Bragdon, of Milford, said GOP senators will work to kill the legislation.

State Republican Party Chairman John H. Sununu criticized the House vote as an "attempt by the liberal Democrats in the Legislature to impose their San Francisco agenda on the state of New Hampshire."

Like so many anti-equality folk, Sununu was never a respecter of process.
